Biotin and Breakouts

I’ll start off by saying, once again, that I am not a nutritionist or a doctor. This is simply a description post about my own experience with biotin, breaking out and how I fixed it! Biotin has been known to have really good “hair” benefits when it comes to growing it long and strong. There are so many different products that contain biotin such as shampoos and supplements. The marketing for this product was SO GOOD that I dove head first into the hype.

I began taking the biotin at night. I added it into my daily supplements and didn’t notice anything, side effects wise, for the first week. However, by week two I had very painful, red and large cystic acne popping up on my chin area! I searched the internet to see what could be causing such a horrible breakout and low and behold– biotin popped up as possibly causing acne.

Finding this information was very confusing because I was under the notion that biotin was supposed to HELP skin! After a few hours of research I came across an article from HBFIT.com and the following is what I found:

“Vitamin B7 is absorbed through receptors in the intestines, and so is vitamin B5. Because they are both absorbed through the same receptors, if there is an excess of one, there is a deficiency in another. This means that if you’re taking biotin supplements, especially pure biotin, then you won’t be able to absorb the vitamin B5 in your diet. This means that the surface of your skin will be more prone to breakouts. It’s not that biotin causes acne, but a deficiency in vitamin B5 will.” https://hbfit.com/does-biotin-cause-acne/

OK… So what I gather from that article is if you take biotin, it can cause acne due to the biotin making one’s body unable to absorb the vitamin B5. It isn’t the biotin itself per say, it is the effect it has on the absorption of B vitamins, which can cause a deficiency.

After researching how to FIX this problem, I found different ways you can combat the horrible acne effect. The solution? You’re supposed to stop taking the biotin! Clearly, something isn’t reacting properly. However, if you’re like me and insist on making it work– It is suggested you take a biotin supplement mixed with coconut oil, as well as a B vitamin complex or a B5 supplement. You’re also supposed to drink A LOT of water. Although I had to pee every 5 seconds, it was worth it for the clear skin. I also added a collagen vitamin to my diet as well. Both the biotin and collagen are working wonders on my hair. It’s practically a horse tail!

So, if you breakout from adding biotin into your diet, try biotin that is already mixed in a multivitamin, the product I am attaching below, add a B-complex vitamin or a B5 vitamin to your diet. AND DON’T FORGET TO ADD MORE WATER INTO YOUR DIET! These are just tips and suggestions for what worked for me!

Always check with your doctor before taking any supplements or medication.

Hydrafacials: The Hype Is Legit!

So, I am sure some of you have heard of the newest trend in facial skincare called the Hydrafacial. However, if you’re like I was and live under a rock, here is some information regarding this newest trend. There are many different forms of Hydrafacials out there, but this next information is taken directly from the Hydrafacial website.

According to hydrafacial.com, this specific facial will help with “fine lines, wrinkles, firmness, elasticity, even tone, vibrancy, skin texture, brown spots, oily skin and enlarged pores.” Another words, according to them, “hydrofacial is for everyone”. And let me tell you, it’s truly an amazing freaking treatment!

I decided to stop being lazy with my skincare and prepare for my upcoming wedding. I mean seriously, what bride doesn’t want beautiful and glowing skin!? I can’t be looking like a dehydrated crone for my pictures. By June 20, 2020 I really want to have the most glowing and healthy skin possible— so that means a lot of prep work.

Let me start off by saying, I have SUPER sensitive skin. I kid you not. I have fair, sensitive and pimple prone skin. Not to mention, the occasional redness flare up. I have to be super careful trying any new and fad skincare product or makeup… otherwise I get hives, rashes and lots of hidden pimples. Not cute. But, I read about these hydra facials and have stalked plenty of Instagram tags to see the results are no joke! And best of all- they work for all skin types! So, I began googling places that offer this treatment in and around the New York City/New Jersey area. After researching places, I found Lana’s Organic Day Spa in New Jersey. Lana, who has worked on Dr. Oz’s face, has a treatment called Hydrodermabrasion. After reading about the treatment it seemed very similar to the branded “Hydrafacial”.

According to Lana’s website:

Hydrodermabrasion is an all natural, virtually painless, skin treatment procedure that dramatically improves the appearance and texture of your skin in a rapid manner and provides a discernible enhancement to the recipient Hydrodermabrasion treatments are highly effective in skin texture improvement, wrinkle reduction, removal unwanted pigmentation and overall skin rejuvenation. It is also very useful with acne, blackheads and eruptions.

That was enough to get me to book a session! The next day I walked into an amazing boutique type of spa with an aroma to die for—seriously, it smelled so fresh and relaxing! I met Lana, who is a sweetheart by the way, and she walked me to a back room where I got undressed and prepared for the facial. She walked me through each step and then began with an amazing cleansing face massage. Her hands were like magic and I quickly became super relaxed. She followed the cleanse with lots of different toning products, while giving me a neck massage. It was amazing. I’m not too sure what happened next because I kept falling asleep but I definitely remember the Hydradermabrasion. It didn’t hurt but it does feel like a stronger sucking sensation. In fact, I found it oddly satisfying and quite nice knowing that this little machine was sucking out all of the gross shit from my face and then hydrating my pores at the same time! But I’m the type of freak who enjoys pimple popping videos and people’s squirting cysts… so some of you mind not like the type of pressure from the hydra facial like I did! However, Lana did ask me if the pressure was okay and made sure it wasn’t uncomfortable in any kind of way. After the treatment itself, Lana turned on an infrared light and let me stay under it for about 10 minutes. She said it kills bacteria and has many skin benefits. Lastly, Lana put on a mask followed by cleansing and more moisturizing. I left the spa feeling super refreshed with brand new skin! Seriously, it was glowing and still is a few days later. I had an amazing experience and highly recommend this type of facial to ANYONE with ANY type of skin.

The Glow Is Real.

Milk: Product Review

Product Review:

Get It Here

Over the weekend I was a hair model for a company I absolutely love. I won’t say their name because I truly do love their products but as I have stated before, I have REALLY sensitive skin. Well, for hours my hair was pulled, sprayed and fixed with different products, overlapping each other and building up on my scalp for hours.

Anyways, I broke out in a reaction later that night. It was painful, itchy and I freaked out thinking we had bed bugs or fleas! I washed the sheets, cleaned the dog and even told Jon (my fiance) I was really worried it was some sort of bug bites. We didn’t have bugs. In fact, we rarely even see any sort of insect in our home.

Soon, once I calmed down, I realized it was all of the products mixed together and sprayed over and over for hours onto my neck area and scalp that was causing the reaction. As soon as I re-washed my hair, the rash subsided but wouldn’t go away regardless of trying Benadryl and Hydrocortisone cream.

I use Milk as a night moisturizer and it has done wonders for my skin in terms of moisurizing; however, I read Maskcara Milk cream was also being used for skin reactions, eczema, etc. so I figured why not try it. No joke— two days later and my neck/ scalp are almost completely cured. I couldn’t believe how quickly it worked and how it worked better than the typical medication for such a reaction. I am honestly in owe and taken back by the powers of this cream! It is no secret I am a fan of Darphin products because they’re great for sensitive skin.

Honestly, Milk is a miracle cream and it has now become a daily product added to my Darphin skincare.

ps. it works better than La Mer in my opinion. Yes, I’ve tried both their regular cream and soft cream. Milk still takes the cake!
