Litter Box Odor Eliminator: Tips and Products

The smell of a cat litter box can be overpowering. You know, the kind of smell that is so bad you almost gag to death when you’re cleaning it. Seriously, we’ve all been there. But, I have found a few solutions through some trial and error! For starters, BOTH of my animals have a litter box of sorts.

Louie has a custom pee pad that was made for me when I lived in Manhattan. It is special K9 grass that has holes at the bottom and a tray that can be lifted off. Under the tray, there is a box with cat litter where the urine trickles down to be caught.

Beatrice has the Breeze Box! It’s actually amazing and rarely ever smells! The box has pellets that allow the urine to travel down onto a pee pad that can be changed out once a week. The pellets only need to be changed once a month! I also found ways to troubleshoot the breeze box for cats who are extra picky about their litter! But, thats for another post and review.

Okay back to the point of this post and the review of three products that have helped tremendously with keeping odor at bay. First is Prestige Pet Magic. The Prestige Pet Magic has activated carbon to help eliminate and deodorize cat litter. It is eco-friendly and the odor gets trapped in the pores of the activated carbon. It is also virtually dust free! It is for all cat box and litter box types and is safe for your home. I simply follow the directions and the amount suggested. Then, I mix it into the cat litter.

Now, if you want a stronger and more concentrated product, I highly recommend NonScents Cat Litter Deodorizer. It is described as being fragrance free but I feel it has a slight smell of cleaner– like chlorine from a pool. It is strong and neutralizes litter boxes after just a few sprinkles on top. It is also very natural and safe. However, if you are sensitive to smells, especially chlorine or pool smells, I would get the Prestige Pet Magic instead because that product has ZERO smell to it.

Lastly, I purchased an air purifier to stick to the back of Beatrice’s litter box. It is small, compact and does a great job at keeping a fresh poop smell hidden. I mean, you can’t really HIDE a cat’s poop smell. We all know how potent and strong those suckers can be! But, I’ve noticed with the air purifier it sucks up any initial smell, making the initial cleaning process bearable. I found the product on amazon and it is called SPAZEL  Pet Odor Removers, Smart Sense Home Air Purifier for Cat Dog Pee Odor Deodorizer Device for Bathroom, Kitchen, Pet Litter Box

It is automatic, has a small little filer, and is able to stick to a litter box or wall nearby. It requires 3 triple AAA batteries and can be used for bathrooms, children’s rooms, or even on trashcans. It is very versatile. I personally only use it for the litter box to keep that particular smell neutralized.

Door Buddy Review

Picture taken from Amazon

Do you have a dog that indulges in your cat’s food? If you do… isn’t it the worst!? I have a dog who loves to feast on everything and anything that resembles food. Louie, my pug, absolutely loves to sneak into his sister’s room and eat her food when nobody is watching. It caused him to have an upset stomach and to gain weight. I couldn’t figure out how to get him to stop doing it and I tried all of the tricks out there! Soon, it became very annoying having to pick up the cat food, place it on a desk, and remember to put it back down when I was able to watch Beatrice (the cat) eat.

Picture taken from Amazon

I was googling solutions and that is when I came across the Door Buddy . It is SUPER easy to install and has prevented Louie from entering the room. Therefore, no more cat food snacks, stinky gas and stomach pains for him! The strap is adjustable to make the door space larger or smaller depending on your cat’s size. Beatrice has had zero issues entering the room and leaving when she is done eating. It is the perfect solution for my home! Who knew this tiny little knick knack would work!

But, this doesn’t just prevent dog’s who eat cat food… it also prevents them from entering the litter box and having a cat poop snack as well! Yes, some dogs eat cat poop and it is super disgusting. Louie, thank goodness, has not indulged in that delicacy. But, for dog owners who’s dogs love that type of thing, just move their litter box into the room that has the Door Buddy!

Here’s The Skinny On These Skinny Jeans

Okay. Let me just start by saying we ALL love those one, very special, super comfortable and amazing jeans. You know– the ones that keep the FUPA (upper p**** fat) at bay and lift your hiney so high it can reach the heavens!? Well, I have found those perfect pair of jeans and their brand. Madewell.

Madewell makes the most perfect 10″ high waisted skinny jeans that not only make heads turn but holds everything in and up in all of the right places. They’re absolutely amazing and SO comfortable. Not to mention, they come in a wide variety of washes. I swear their jeans have been a god-send! No more camel toes, no more flattened backend and no more stumpy looking legs (which are ALL common irritations and massive annoyances that comes along with wearing high waisted jeans).

The best part? I have ALSO tried their 9″ high waisted jeans and Roadtripper jeggings as well and they are just as fabulous. They have the perfect amount of stretch and comfort without causing a saggy a** dip in the back. I mean, really… who wants that? Not me.

They’re flattering and made with such a high quality that has been unmatched.

I personally have not found an equal match in the jean department with other brands (and I’m a jean addict and snob to say the least). I own over 30 pairs and Madewell jeans are by FAR my favorite.

Here’s the thing, I wasn’t even paid to give this raving review… I just love the jeans THAT much I couldn’t help but share my excitement with the world. These puppies are too great to keep hidden and I personally feel everyone should own a pair.

This is also a first… I don’t have a favorite! I have different pairs of their skinny jeggings, 10″ and 9″ skinnies and you can’t go wrong with any of them. So there you have it… the honest to goodness “skinny” on these amazing skinny jeans and brand. So do yourself a favor and don’t “waist” anytime adding these jeans to your wardrobe. They’re a staple item for sure! Happy shopping–You won’t regret it!

Snowboarding Gear Style and Review

There is nothing more exciting about getting some new skiing or snowboarding gear for the upcoming season. I, for one, absolutely love my newest gear from Flow and Head. Now, let’s not be pervy… those REALLY are the names (I can’t make this up).

However, aside from the names these two brands truly deliver pretty amazing products. To start, I can attest that their Jewel 149 snowboard is absolutely amazing. The design is sleek and much lighter than my previous Burton board. Now, I am not saying one brand is better than the other. In fact, I love Burton! However, there was a sale on the Flow boards at the snowboard shop I was at in Windham, NY and I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to upgrade!

My first impression was that the board had an extremely appealing dark galaxy design, along with a red and black design on the back. It is truly a really visually appealing and impressive board. The weight was average and a lot lighter than my previous board.

The first ride with this board was awesome. I was at Windham Mountain and it was a mix of freshly groomed and non groomed snow. For starters, this baby was quick! I was able to slice in and out of turns without catching an edge. It has enough flex but isn’t overly soft where I felt unstable. It’s speed made the entire run extremely fun and took a lot of pressure off of my joints since it is so easy to maneuver.

As for the bindings… I actually mix and match. There is no reason why you need to stick within brands, unless you’re that type of person who needs all of the gear under the same house (so to speak)— which is completely fine! I just prefer to mix and match based on my needs. So, that’s where the Head bindings come in.

I paired the snowboard with Head Px5 bindings. Taken from Head’s website it states:

It has a full EVA base pad for increased control. Auto-open straps for easy in and out and the ankle strap features a rich combination of technical fabric and leather. The rich look trough delivers a cool, classic combination of silver and black. All riders, from experts to intermediates, will appreciate the performance features of tool-free forward lean adjustment and transformable neoprene toe strap.

Basically, these bindings make life so much easier with their Tool Free Forward Lean Adjustment and easy auto opening straps. They gave me enough support to feel secure but also didn’t have a stiff feeling like my previous bindings.

Okay! Now onto the boots. I have wide feet with zero arch. My little hobbit feet just don’t do well in women’s boots! I opted for Head’s Perfect Fit Men’s snowboarding boots! These boots are by FAR the most amazing pair of snowboarding boots I have ever had! They’re so comfortable, warm and supportive. They feel like you’re wearing a sneaker. They are so lightweight and have easy tightening and loosening capabilities with the turn of a knob. And— they lock themselves! They have great flex and help position you in a more forward and comfortable position when you are snowboarding without compromising the protection of your ankles! I absolutely love these boots and recommend them to EVERYONE!

Miele Vacuum Review

Thinking of investing in a Miele? If so, read below. This is an honest and open review of their pet c3 series vacuum.

If you have pets, especially pets that shed, you know how difficult it can be to get their hair out of carpets, furniture, clothes, the bed, drinking glasses, etc. There are times I find Louie and Beatrice’s hair in places I didn’t even think was possible! I have tried numerous vacuums and pet hair cleaning products but none of them seemed to work in gathering all of the hair.

A little fact about pugs is that they shed…A LOT! Before I got Louie, I didn’t realize how much of a tiny little fur ball he would be. You see, pugs have a double coat and I swear– you can literally blow on them and POOF! Hair flies everywhere! Once we adopted Bea, the hair amounts in our carpet just kept building and building until finally the carpet looked like a different color. I would vacuum twice a day with my Shark and it still wouldn’t pick up all of the dog and cat hair.

After extensive research, I decided to invest in a Miele.

Miele makes a ton of products for the home. Their vacuums come in a wide range of types: canister, bagless, stick, upright and robot. Miele vacuums are known for being durable, long lasting, compact and for having a great suction– something that is absolutely necessary when cleaning dog hair out of carpets.

After lots of research on Miele http://www.mieleusa.com I decided to purchase the Miele Complete C3 Cat & Dog Canister Vacuum Cleaner because it was important to me that it was made specifically with the pet owner in mind! I kid you not– it is honestly a god-send. It is pricey, yes, but let me tell you… it is WORTH it!

Within the first use I was hooked. The canister was easy to assemble and what I love the most is that it has an active air clean filter and lots of different heads for the vacuum. The air clean filter and bag might seem like a pain in the butt for some people, however, I personally loved it! It collects and traps all of the dust, dirt, hair and dander instead of spreading that awful burnt smell throughout the air. It keeps the air smelling fresh and clean!

The Electrobrush has five levels of heights for different carpet adjustments and it literally SUCKS everything up out of your carpet. My “white/gray” mixed dog hair carpet finally returned back to its rich black color. I was amazed! Truly and utterly in awe at the power of this vacuum head! I have different carpets throughout the house and each require a different level of suction and height. I love that the electrobrush allows you to change the height depending on the carpet piling.

Then there’s the hardwood floor tool– the parquet twister. It is so easy to use and lightweight. It glides across my kitchen floor, picking up dirt between every crack. Lastly, my third favorite brush head is the mini turbo. I use this on my stair carpeting as well as cleaning my microfiber couch! Again, the suction power of the Miele makes vacuuming hair super easy. It puts my old Shark to shame!

I do not find this vacuum to be too heavy. Sure, it is a lot different than a standup vacuum but once you adjust to the canister it really isn’t too much of a difference. I don’t mind it at all and I don’t mind carrying it up the steps. For me, it is actually easier to get our narrow steps and makes it easier for me to turn.

I highly recommend this vacuum and all of its features! My house rugs look brand new and I always get compliments on how fresh and clean my home is–even with two very furry pets!

Taken from Amazon’s description:

Miele’s Complete C3 Cat & Dog vacuum cleaner features an Electro Plus electro brush. With a five-level height adjustment and an independent motor, the Electro Plus delivers the ultimate in cleaning power. A perfect choice for larger rooms with medium to deep pile carpeting. The Cat and Dog also includes the Parquet Twister – providing 180 Degree rotation for the agile, yet gentle care of smooth surfaces. It also has an Active Air Clean Filter with active charcoal layers to neutralize and absorb unwanted pet odors. A telescopic, stainless steel wand and long electrical cord, with one-touch automatic rewind, provide a total cleaning radius of 36 feet. The Cat & Dog is also equipped with a Deluxe Comfort Grip handle and six-stage suction control via a +/- foot switch. In addition to the three standard accessories – a dusting brush, upholstery tool and crevice nozzle – the Cat & Dog features a Mini Turbo Brush that easily removes pet hair from furnishings and a 3D bumper. Do not use the vacuum cleaner to vacuum toner dust.

Best Friends by Sheri Bed Review

Yup! You read the heading– I was one of those people who HAD to see what the Best Friends by Sheri bed was all about for myself. I was one of those people who took a ride on the facebook-hype train and caved. I can’t explain it, but this fuzzy pet ball bed going viral was extremely intriguing.

The bed is designed to be a donut shape with a faux-shag material to make your pet feel warm and comfortable. It is machine washable, which is a huge plus, and is also described to give orthopedic support.

I purchased the medium, in the color frost, for Louie and Beatrice and needless to say… THEY LOVE IT! Yup, you read it right people… Louie and Beatrice love the soft, fuzzy and silky feel to this bed. In fact, they lay in it together and separately.

The bed itself is super soft and silky. The sides are very fluffy and have a lot of stuffing. The middle is not as stuffed. In fact, Louie sinks into it (probably touching the ground) but then cuddles up into the sides. It works for us and he really enjoys sleeping in the bed. I personally don’t see how it is orthopedic or has orthopedic properties. But, I’m not a scientist or doctor so I am just simply going by the physical feel and the “feel” doesn’t come across like it would be super supportive for a pet who needs a supportive bed due to specific medical reasons.

They sell the bed on amazon but I personally bought mine from Chewy.com

Biotin and Breakouts

I’ll start off by saying, once again, that I am not a nutritionist or a doctor. This is simply a description post about my own experience with biotin, breaking out and how I fixed it! Biotin has been known to have really good “hair” benefits when it comes to growing it long and strong. There are so many different products that contain biotin such as shampoos and supplements. The marketing for this product was SO GOOD that I dove head first into the hype.

I began taking the biotin at night. I added it into my daily supplements and didn’t notice anything, side effects wise, for the first week. However, by week two I had very painful, red and large cystic acne popping up on my chin area! I searched the internet to see what could be causing such a horrible breakout and low and behold– biotin popped up as possibly causing acne.

Finding this information was very confusing because I was under the notion that biotin was supposed to HELP skin! After a few hours of research I came across an article from HBFIT.com and the following is what I found:

“Vitamin B7 is absorbed through receptors in the intestines, and so is vitamin B5. Because they are both absorbed through the same receptors, if there is an excess of one, there is a deficiency in another. This means that if you’re taking biotin supplements, especially pure biotin, then you won’t be able to absorb the vitamin B5 in your diet. This means that the surface of your skin will be more prone to breakouts. It’s not that biotin causes acne, but a deficiency in vitamin B5 will.” https://hbfit.com/does-biotin-cause-acne/

OK… So what I gather from that article is if you take biotin, it can cause acne due to the biotin making one’s body unable to absorb the vitamin B5. It isn’t the biotin itself per say, it is the effect it has on the absorption of B vitamins, which can cause a deficiency.

After researching how to FIX this problem, I found different ways you can combat the horrible acne effect. The solution? You’re supposed to stop taking the biotin! Clearly, something isn’t reacting properly. However, if you’re like me and insist on making it work– It is suggested you take a biotin supplement mixed with coconut oil, as well as a B vitamin complex or a B5 supplement. You’re also supposed to drink A LOT of water. Although I had to pee every 5 seconds, it was worth it for the clear skin. I also added a collagen vitamin to my diet as well. Both the biotin and collagen are working wonders on my hair. It’s practically a horse tail!

So, if you breakout from adding biotin into your diet, try biotin that is already mixed in a multivitamin, the product I am attaching below, add a B-complex vitamin or a B5 vitamin to your diet. AND DON’T FORGET TO ADD MORE WATER INTO YOUR DIET! These are just tips and suggestions for what worked for me!

Always check with your doctor before taking any supplements or medication.

Scratch Lounge Review

Beatrice after a nice scratching session!

For those of you who have kittens and cats, you know that they love to find things to scratch! My kitten, Beatrice, needed a new item for her to scratch. She has a scratching post, which she uses sometimes, but I needed something that was lightweight and easy to move around my house (and for when we travel with her).

A friend of my recommended the Scratch Lounge The Original Scratch Lounge

When I originally found the product on Chewy , I couldn’t believe it had such amazing reviews. “It’s a box with freaking cardboard ridges…” I thought to myself. “How could this be so highly rated?”

Well, I ordered it… because I am a sucker for good reviews! I had to see for myself why it was so highly praised.

Once the item arrived, I unwrapped it and put it together. Again, I sat there perplexed and thinking, “this is literally a freaking piece of cardboard that I just purchased.” However, once I placed some kitty crack in the box, Beatrice immediately flew over to it and began examining her new toy. I know what you’re thinking…Bull.

But I swear, she absolutely loved it. I kid you not. She scratched for what seemed like hours and to this day, she still uses it nonstop.

I move it around the house and whenever she tries to scratch unacceptable objects, such as furniture, I place her scratcher by her for her to use. It is absolutely amazing and she loves it! For those wondering, she uses it even if there ISN’T any cat nip in it. She genuinely just loves to rest on it or scratch it.

It’s hysterical that I paid for a device that is just cardboard with ridges in it but I swear it works and will 100% be replacing it in the future once this one gets destroyed.

Dog Harness: For The Escape Artist

Louie wearing Ruffwear Dog Harness

Yep! You read the heading right. There is a dog harness for our little fur baby butts who tend to escape out of the regular joe-schmo harnesses. Since Louie was little, he has pulled on the leash. Now, before you think to yourself, “get him trained”- I did. Lots of times! We tried everything to get him to stop pulling and each time he would either escape, pull harder, or break the harness all together.

How does such a tiny pug break a harness!? Hell if I know! But, it happened and he has escaped numerous times. Each time, I age from baby strokes and heart attacks. However, I FINALLY found the holy grail of harnesses for dogs and its called RUFFWEAR – Web Master, Multi-Use Support Dog Harness, Hiking and Trail Running, Service and Working, Everyday Wear

The harness is designed to be super sturdy and padded in all of the right places to make sure your dog is comfortable. It has two points on the back where you can clip the leash, and there are two buckles that go under the stomach. Unlike traditional harnesses that only have one strap (which Louie would downward dog and pull out from it), the Ruffwear harness has a second strap to act as a security measure incase the dog pulls out of the first! However, we never had an issue of Louie escaping or even trying to pull out from this one!

I am not the only one who loves this harness. The reviews on amazon speak for themselves. If you need a super heavy duty harness that is intended for trail hiking, working, everyday wear, security, etc. then this is the perfect solution.

As always, this is my own personal experience. I advise people to do their own research and talk to the company with any questions before purchasing.

Only Natural Pet: Immune System Strengthener

As pet parents, it is our job to make sure our little fur babies and their health are in tip top shape! Over the years, I have gotten asked if I give Louie any supplements. The short answer- Yes! Louie, my pug, has had many minor health issues since he was a young pup. He was the runt of the litter and was very tiny when I first brought him home. He suffered from mange, kidney issues and was extremely food sensitive. After many vet visits and thousands of dollars later, I realized taking an alternative approach might be my best bet for finding a cure for him.

Now, mange is normally treated with scary chemical treatments and different medications which can have a lot of side effects. I was worried about these side effects and did not want to expose Louie to them! But, his poor skin was red, inflamed and he was losing hair in patches. It wasn’t cute. I began researching different supplements and products to help boost his immune system. You see, mange isn’t just an exterior problem…it is an INTERNAL problem as well in young animals. I realized if I wanted to cure his mange it would have to be both external and internal.

That is when I found Only Pet Immune Strengthener and began giving it to Louie in his food. The results were outstanding! His kidney levels went back to normal after switching him to a lower protein food and while giving him this supplement. His mange completely healed within a few months. I was shocked! On the outside, I rubbed a paste I made from apple cider vinegar, yogurt and coconut oil and then I simply broke a capsule of the supplement open and poured it over his food. After consistency of doing this a couple of weeks, I noticed massive improvements!

To this day, I give Louie and my kitten, Beatrice, this supplement in their food to keep their immune system healthy and strong!

There are man other solutions such as using borax, hydrogen peroxide, tea tree oil, and other methods but the above method worked for me! As always, check with your veterinarian as this is just what I did after my own research.
