Miele Vacuum Review

Thinking of investing in a Miele? If so, read below. This is an honest and open review of their pet c3 series vacuum.

If you have pets, especially pets that shed, you know how difficult it can be to get their hair out of carpets, furniture, clothes, the bed, drinking glasses, etc. There are times I find Louie and Beatrice’s hair in places I didn’t even think was possible! I have tried numerous vacuums and pet hair cleaning products but none of them seemed to work in gathering all of the hair.

A little fact about pugs is that they shed…A LOT! Before I got Louie, I didn’t realize how much of a tiny little fur ball he would be. You see, pugs have a double coat and I swear– you can literally blow on them and POOF! Hair flies everywhere! Once we adopted Bea, the hair amounts in our carpet just kept building and building until finally the carpet looked like a different color. I would vacuum twice a day with my Shark and it still wouldn’t pick up all of the dog and cat hair.

After extensive research, I decided to invest in a Miele.

Miele makes a ton of products for the home. Their vacuums come in a wide range of types: canister, bagless, stick, upright and robot. Miele vacuums are known for being durable, long lasting, compact and for having a great suction– something that is absolutely necessary when cleaning dog hair out of carpets.

After lots of research on Miele http://www.mieleusa.com I decided to purchase the Miele Complete C3 Cat & Dog Canister Vacuum Cleaner because it was important to me that it was made specifically with the pet owner in mind! I kid you not– it is honestly a god-send. It is pricey, yes, but let me tell you… it is WORTH it!

Within the first use I was hooked. The canister was easy to assemble and what I love the most is that it has an active air clean filter and lots of different heads for the vacuum. The air clean filter and bag might seem like a pain in the butt for some people, however, I personally loved it! It collects and traps all of the dust, dirt, hair and dander instead of spreading that awful burnt smell throughout the air. It keeps the air smelling fresh and clean!

The Electrobrush has five levels of heights for different carpet adjustments and it literally SUCKS everything up out of your carpet. My “white/gray” mixed dog hair carpet finally returned back to its rich black color. I was amazed! Truly and utterly in awe at the power of this vacuum head! I have different carpets throughout the house and each require a different level of suction and height. I love that the electrobrush allows you to change the height depending on the carpet piling.

Then there’s the hardwood floor tool– the parquet twister. It is so easy to use and lightweight. It glides across my kitchen floor, picking up dirt between every crack. Lastly, my third favorite brush head is the mini turbo. I use this on my stair carpeting as well as cleaning my microfiber couch! Again, the suction power of the Miele makes vacuuming hair super easy. It puts my old Shark to shame!

I do not find this vacuum to be too heavy. Sure, it is a lot different than a standup vacuum but once you adjust to the canister it really isn’t too much of a difference. I don’t mind it at all and I don’t mind carrying it up the steps. For me, it is actually easier to get our narrow steps and makes it easier for me to turn.

I highly recommend this vacuum and all of its features! My house rugs look brand new and I always get compliments on how fresh and clean my home is–even with two very furry pets!

Taken from Amazon’s description:

Miele’s Complete C3 Cat & Dog vacuum cleaner features an Electro Plus electro brush. With a five-level height adjustment and an independent motor, the Electro Plus delivers the ultimate in cleaning power. A perfect choice for larger rooms with medium to deep pile carpeting. The Cat and Dog also includes the Parquet Twister – providing 180 Degree rotation for the agile, yet gentle care of smooth surfaces. It also has an Active Air Clean Filter with active charcoal layers to neutralize and absorb unwanted pet odors. A telescopic, stainless steel wand and long electrical cord, with one-touch automatic rewind, provide a total cleaning radius of 36 feet. The Cat & Dog is also equipped with a Deluxe Comfort Grip handle and six-stage suction control via a +/- foot switch. In addition to the three standard accessories – a dusting brush, upholstery tool and crevice nozzle – the Cat & Dog features a Mini Turbo Brush that easily removes pet hair from furnishings and a 3D bumper. Do not use the vacuum cleaner to vacuum toner dust.

Best Friends by Sheri Bed Review

Yup! You read the heading– I was one of those people who HAD to see what the Best Friends by Sheri bed was all about for myself. I was one of those people who took a ride on the facebook-hype train and caved. I can’t explain it, but this fuzzy pet ball bed going viral was extremely intriguing.

The bed is designed to be a donut shape with a faux-shag material to make your pet feel warm and comfortable. It is machine washable, which is a huge plus, and is also described to give orthopedic support.

I purchased the medium, in the color frost, for Louie and Beatrice and needless to say… THEY LOVE IT! Yup, you read it right people… Louie and Beatrice love the soft, fuzzy and silky feel to this bed. In fact, they lay in it together and separately.

The bed itself is super soft and silky. The sides are very fluffy and have a lot of stuffing. The middle is not as stuffed. In fact, Louie sinks into it (probably touching the ground) but then cuddles up into the sides. It works for us and he really enjoys sleeping in the bed. I personally don’t see how it is orthopedic or has orthopedic properties. But, I’m not a scientist or doctor so I am just simply going by the physical feel and the “feel” doesn’t come across like it would be super supportive for a pet who needs a supportive bed due to specific medical reasons.

They sell the bed on amazon but I personally bought mine from Chewy.com

Biotin and Breakouts

I’ll start off by saying, once again, that I am not a nutritionist or a doctor. This is simply a description post about my own experience with biotin, breaking out and how I fixed it! Biotin has been known to have really good “hair” benefits when it comes to growing it long and strong. There are so many different products that contain biotin such as shampoos and supplements. The marketing for this product was SO GOOD that I dove head first into the hype.

I began taking the biotin at night. I added it into my daily supplements and didn’t notice anything, side effects wise, for the first week. However, by week two I had very painful, red and large cystic acne popping up on my chin area! I searched the internet to see what could be causing such a horrible breakout and low and behold– biotin popped up as possibly causing acne.

Finding this information was very confusing because I was under the notion that biotin was supposed to HELP skin! After a few hours of research I came across an article from HBFIT.com and the following is what I found:

“Vitamin B7 is absorbed through receptors in the intestines, and so is vitamin B5. Because they are both absorbed through the same receptors, if there is an excess of one, there is a deficiency in another. This means that if you’re taking biotin supplements, especially pure biotin, then you won’t be able to absorb the vitamin B5 in your diet. This means that the surface of your skin will be more prone to breakouts. It’s not that biotin causes acne, but a deficiency in vitamin B5 will.” https://hbfit.com/does-biotin-cause-acne/

OK… So what I gather from that article is if you take biotin, it can cause acne due to the biotin making one’s body unable to absorb the vitamin B5. It isn’t the biotin itself per say, it is the effect it has on the absorption of B vitamins, which can cause a deficiency.

After researching how to FIX this problem, I found different ways you can combat the horrible acne effect. The solution? You’re supposed to stop taking the biotin! Clearly, something isn’t reacting properly. However, if you’re like me and insist on making it work– It is suggested you take a biotin supplement mixed with coconut oil, as well as a B vitamin complex or a B5 supplement. You’re also supposed to drink A LOT of water. Although I had to pee every 5 seconds, it was worth it for the clear skin. I also added a collagen vitamin to my diet as well. Both the biotin and collagen are working wonders on my hair. It’s practically a horse tail!

So, if you breakout from adding biotin into your diet, try biotin that is already mixed in a multivitamin, the product I am attaching below, add a B-complex vitamin or a B5 vitamin to your diet. AND DON’T FORGET TO ADD MORE WATER INTO YOUR DIET! These are just tips and suggestions for what worked for me!

Always check with your doctor before taking any supplements or medication.

Scratch Lounge Review

Beatrice after a nice scratching session!

For those of you who have kittens and cats, you know that they love to find things to scratch! My kitten, Beatrice, needed a new item for her to scratch. She has a scratching post, which she uses sometimes, but I needed something that was lightweight and easy to move around my house (and for when we travel with her).

A friend of my recommended the Scratch Lounge The Original Scratch Lounge

When I originally found the product on Chewy , I couldn’t believe it had such amazing reviews. “It’s a box with freaking cardboard ridges…” I thought to myself. “How could this be so highly rated?”

Well, I ordered it… because I am a sucker for good reviews! I had to see for myself why it was so highly praised.

Once the item arrived, I unwrapped it and put it together. Again, I sat there perplexed and thinking, “this is literally a freaking piece of cardboard that I just purchased.” However, once I placed some kitty crack in the box, Beatrice immediately flew over to it and began examining her new toy. I know what you’re thinking…Bull.

But I swear, she absolutely loved it. I kid you not. She scratched for what seemed like hours and to this day, she still uses it nonstop.

I move it around the house and whenever she tries to scratch unacceptable objects, such as furniture, I place her scratcher by her for her to use. It is absolutely amazing and she loves it! For those wondering, she uses it even if there ISN’T any cat nip in it. She genuinely just loves to rest on it or scratch it.

It’s hysterical that I paid for a device that is just cardboard with ridges in it but I swear it works and will 100% be replacing it in the future once this one gets destroyed.

Dog Harness: For The Escape Artist

Louie wearing Ruffwear Dog Harness

Yep! You read the heading right. There is a dog harness for our little fur baby butts who tend to escape out of the regular joe-schmo harnesses. Since Louie was little, he has pulled on the leash. Now, before you think to yourself, “get him trained”- I did. Lots of times! We tried everything to get him to stop pulling and each time he would either escape, pull harder, or break the harness all together.

How does such a tiny pug break a harness!? Hell if I know! But, it happened and he has escaped numerous times. Each time, I age from baby strokes and heart attacks. However, I FINALLY found the holy grail of harnesses for dogs and its called RUFFWEAR – Web Master, Multi-Use Support Dog Harness, Hiking and Trail Running, Service and Working, Everyday Wear

The harness is designed to be super sturdy and padded in all of the right places to make sure your dog is comfortable. It has two points on the back where you can clip the leash, and there are two buckles that go under the stomach. Unlike traditional harnesses that only have one strap (which Louie would downward dog and pull out from it), the Ruffwear harness has a second strap to act as a security measure incase the dog pulls out of the first! However, we never had an issue of Louie escaping or even trying to pull out from this one!

I am not the only one who loves this harness. The reviews on amazon speak for themselves. If you need a super heavy duty harness that is intended for trail hiking, working, everyday wear, security, etc. then this is the perfect solution.

As always, this is my own personal experience. I advise people to do their own research and talk to the company with any questions before purchasing.

Only Natural Pet: Immune System Strengthener

As pet parents, it is our job to make sure our little fur babies and their health are in tip top shape! Over the years, I have gotten asked if I give Louie any supplements. The short answer- Yes! Louie, my pug, has had many minor health issues since he was a young pup. He was the runt of the litter and was very tiny when I first brought him home. He suffered from mange, kidney issues and was extremely food sensitive. After many vet visits and thousands of dollars later, I realized taking an alternative approach might be my best bet for finding a cure for him.

Now, mange is normally treated with scary chemical treatments and different medications which can have a lot of side effects. I was worried about these side effects and did not want to expose Louie to them! But, his poor skin was red, inflamed and he was losing hair in patches. It wasn’t cute. I began researching different supplements and products to help boost his immune system. You see, mange isn’t just an exterior problem…it is an INTERNAL problem as well in young animals. I realized if I wanted to cure his mange it would have to be both external and internal.

That is when I found Only Pet Immune Strengthener and began giving it to Louie in his food. The results were outstanding! His kidney levels went back to normal after switching him to a lower protein food and while giving him this supplement. His mange completely healed within a few months. I was shocked! On the outside, I rubbed a paste I made from apple cider vinegar, yogurt and coconut oil and then I simply broke a capsule of the supplement open and poured it over his food. After consistency of doing this a couple of weeks, I noticed massive improvements!

To this day, I give Louie and my kitten, Beatrice, this supplement in their food to keep their immune system healthy and strong!

There are man other solutions such as using borax, hydrogen peroxide, tea tree oil, and other methods but the above method worked for me! As always, check with your veterinarian as this is just what I did after my own research.

Your Body Is A Machine

Your Body Is A Machine

Growing up, my father used to tell me “your body is a machine”. You see, I come from an extremely athletic and health conscientious family. My brother and I were taught at a young age that our athletic performance was not just about training hard but also eating the right things. I began developing the mindset that if I ate well and trained hard, I would live a healthy life. I have played soccer, softball and rode horses. I have swam, skied and snowboarded my entire life. My brother wrestled, played football and lacrosse. All of these sports were extremely demanding on our bodies but we learned that performance and recovery depended largely on what was put into our bodies. Stephanie Walsh, a Medical Director, explains “Food is fuel for our bodies, just like gas is for our car. If we put bad fuel in our car, the engine won’t work right—just like if we put unhealthy foods in our bodies.”

Now, don’t get me wrong, eating healthy 24/7 isn’t natural. Sometimes, we want to indulge in some ice cream and cupcakes! And that is OKAY!

Eating healthy and making healthy simple choices is a marathon, not a sprint. The key to success in eating healthy and treating your body right all stems from making healthy, simple and obtainable short-term goals that become a routine and lifestyle. Eventually, you can push yourself with more long term goals such as running a marathon, keeping weight off or just going for a walk every day. Making short term goals will be much easier than creating goals that are too wide stretched, difficult and too far long in the future that you will most likely experience binging. Trust me, it happens to the best of us.

Binging, quitting, or telling yourself “I’ll start tomorrow” happens when you want results FAST, overnight and make non sustainable goals. You might eat super strict and “healthy” for weeks and then binge days on end because you cannot maintain, thus making it more difficult to get back into a routine. Instead, creating short, obtainable, challenging but not impossible, goals you can achieve daily will help eliminate the urge to binge or quit!

For example, instead of eating an entire bowl of pasta, cut it in half and replace the other half with a healthy salad or vegetable. If you cut your portions in half and replace them with a health alternative, that is an obtainable daily goal. You’re not being put on a strict diet that can cause crashes or binging. Instead, you’re portion controlling but able to still eat what you desire…only, you cut it in half! Or, instead of going out every night on the weekend, indulging on beer and buffalo wings, go one time a week! You have to take CARE of your body just as you would a car. Polish it, clean it, and run it on the best fuel with healthy choices.

And yes, I made that healthy food pictured above. It is chia seeds, greek yogurt, cut up bananas and apples, granola and hemp hearts! My fiance Jon loved it and he’s naturally a Stouffer’s Creative Comforts type of man! I was surprised he enjoyed it and said he’d be willing to try something healthy again the next morning 🙂 Ahh, goal completed!

Below are examples of Whole Foods (video) and of S.M.A.R.T. method goals. Enjoy!

Hydrafacials: The Hype Is Legit!

So, I am sure some of you have heard of the newest trend in facial skincare called the Hydrafacial. However, if you’re like I was and live under a rock, here is some information regarding this newest trend. There are many different forms of Hydrafacials out there, but this next information is taken directly from the Hydrafacial website.

According to hydrafacial.com, this specific facial will help with “fine lines, wrinkles, firmness, elasticity, even tone, vibrancy, skin texture, brown spots, oily skin and enlarged pores.” Another words, according to them, “hydrofacial is for everyone”. And let me tell you, it’s truly an amazing freaking treatment!

I decided to stop being lazy with my skincare and prepare for my upcoming wedding. I mean seriously, what bride doesn’t want beautiful and glowing skin!? I can’t be looking like a dehydrated crone for my pictures. By June 20, 2020 I really want to have the most glowing and healthy skin possible— so that means a lot of prep work.

Let me start off by saying, I have SUPER sensitive skin. I kid you not. I have fair, sensitive and pimple prone skin. Not to mention, the occasional redness flare up. I have to be super careful trying any new and fad skincare product or makeup… otherwise I get hives, rashes and lots of hidden pimples. Not cute. But, I read about these hydra facials and have stalked plenty of Instagram tags to see the results are no joke! And best of all- they work for all skin types! So, I began googling places that offer this treatment in and around the New York City/New Jersey area. After researching places, I found Lana’s Organic Day Spa in New Jersey. Lana, who has worked on Dr. Oz’s face, has a treatment called Hydrodermabrasion. After reading about the treatment it seemed very similar to the branded “Hydrafacial”.

According to Lana’s website:

Hydrodermabrasion is an all natural, virtually painless, skin treatment procedure that dramatically improves the appearance and texture of your skin in a rapid manner and provides a discernible enhancement to the recipient Hydrodermabrasion treatments are highly effective in skin texture improvement, wrinkle reduction, removal unwanted pigmentation and overall skin rejuvenation. It is also very useful with acne, blackheads and eruptions.

That was enough to get me to book a session! The next day I walked into an amazing boutique type of spa with an aroma to die for—seriously, it smelled so fresh and relaxing! I met Lana, who is a sweetheart by the way, and she walked me to a back room where I got undressed and prepared for the facial. She walked me through each step and then began with an amazing cleansing face massage. Her hands were like magic and I quickly became super relaxed. She followed the cleanse with lots of different toning products, while giving me a neck massage. It was amazing. I’m not too sure what happened next because I kept falling asleep but I definitely remember the Hydradermabrasion. It didn’t hurt but it does feel like a stronger sucking sensation. In fact, I found it oddly satisfying and quite nice knowing that this little machine was sucking out all of the gross shit from my face and then hydrating my pores at the same time! But I’m the type of freak who enjoys pimple popping videos and people’s squirting cysts… so some of you mind not like the type of pressure from the hydra facial like I did! However, Lana did ask me if the pressure was okay and made sure it wasn’t uncomfortable in any kind of way. After the treatment itself, Lana turned on an infrared light and let me stay under it for about 10 minutes. She said it kills bacteria and has many skin benefits. Lastly, Lana put on a mask followed by cleansing and more moisturizing. I left the spa feeling super refreshed with brand new skin! Seriously, it was glowing and still is a few days later. I had an amazing experience and highly recommend this type of facial to ANYONE with ANY type of skin.

The Glow Is Real.

Milk: Product Review

Product Review:

Get It Here

Over the weekend I was a hair model for a company I absolutely love. I won’t say their name because I truly do love their products but as I have stated before, I have REALLY sensitive skin. Well, for hours my hair was pulled, sprayed and fixed with different products, overlapping each other and building up on my scalp for hours.

Anyways, I broke out in a reaction later that night. It was painful, itchy and I freaked out thinking we had bed bugs or fleas! I washed the sheets, cleaned the dog and even told Jon (my fiance) I was really worried it was some sort of bug bites. We didn’t have bugs. In fact, we rarely even see any sort of insect in our home.

Soon, once I calmed down, I realized it was all of the products mixed together and sprayed over and over for hours onto my neck area and scalp that was causing the reaction. As soon as I re-washed my hair, the rash subsided but wouldn’t go away regardless of trying Benadryl and Hydrocortisone cream.

I use Milk as a night moisturizer and it has done wonders for my skin in terms of moisurizing; however, I read Maskcara Milk cream was also being used for skin reactions, eczema, etc. so I figured why not try it. No joke— two days later and my neck/ scalp are almost completely cured. I couldn’t believe how quickly it worked and how it worked better than the typical medication for such a reaction. I am honestly in owe and taken back by the powers of this cream! It is no secret I am a fan of Darphin products because they’re great for sensitive skin.

Honestly, Milk is a miracle cream and it has now become a daily product added to my Darphin skincare.

ps. it works better than La Mer in my opinion. Yes, I’ve tried both their regular cream and soft cream. Milk still takes the cake!

Meditation: The Basics Backed By Science

We all need a “place”. A place for ourselves to unwind, relax and self reflect. Such a place can be referred to as a sanctuary, an oasis or a hideaway. It is easy to get lost in the hustle and bustle of day to day activities. It’s often hard for people to find the time to relax, slow down and enjoy life. Too many people are often filled with stress, anxiety and constantly running around without taking the time to just be still. Everyone needs an oasis.

“Where there is peace and meditation, there is neither anxiety nor doubt.” Sr. Francis de Sales

Meditation is a great way to practice self reflection, while also calming the body and lowering stress levels. Meditation can improve mental clarity, focus and emotions. However, how often do we actually take the time to find an oasis spot and meditate? How often do we take time for ourselves?

We are often stumbling across blogs and forums explaining the spiritual reasoning behind why people should meditate. There are many spiritual gratifications an individual can receive from meditation. However, many people like science based facts over spirituality. For instance, people like my fiance need scientific facts to help them understand certain benefits with activities such as meditation and self reflection.

The Evidence…

In a study conducted at five middle schools in Belgium, involving about 400 students (13 ~ 20 years old), Professor Filip Raes concludes that “students who follow an in-class mindfulness program report reduced indications of depression, anxiety and stress up to six months later. Moreover, these students were less likely to develop pronounced depression-like symptoms.”

High-risk pregnant women who participated in a ten-week mindfulness yoga training saw significant reductions in depressive symptoms, according to a University of Michigan Health System pilot feasibility study. The mothers-to-be also showed more intense bonding to their babies in the womb. The findings were published in Complementary Therapies in Clinical Practice.

A study led by Katherine MacLean of the University of California suggested that during and after meditation training, subjects were more skilled at keeping focus, especially on repetitive and boring tasks.
Another study demonstrated that even with only 20 minutes a day of practice, students were able to improve their performance on tests of cognitive skill, in some cases doing 10 times better than the group that did not meditate. They also performed better on information-processing tasks that were designed to induce deadline stress.
In fact, there is evidence that meditators had a thicker prefrontal cortex and right anterior insula, and also to the effect that meditation might offset the loss of cognitive ability with old age.

Eileen Luders, an assistant professor at the UCLA Laboratory of Neuro Imaging, and colleagues, have found that long-term meditators have larger amounts of gyrification (“folding” of the cortex, which may allow the brain to process information faster) than people who do not meditate. Scientists suspect that gyrification is responsible for making the brain better at processing information, making decisions, forming memories and improving attention.

Clinical research has demonstrated that the practice of Zen Meditation (also known as “Zazen”) reduces stress and high blood pressure.
Another experiment, this time with a technique called “relaxation response”, yielded similar results, with 2/3 of high blood pressure patients showing significant drops in blood pressure after 3 months of meditation, and, consequently, less need for medication. This is because relaxation results in the formation of nitric oxide, which opens up your blood vessels.

Some more interesting facts about meditation:

There are MANY different types of meditation. Science has proven it is good to practice for many different factors.

For now, we will start with just a basic meditation. Below is a self help guide to meditation. I recommend finding a place of your own and practice these principals. Make it a habit and make it apart of your daily ritual. Your mind and your body will thank you.

“In mindfulness meditation, we’re learning how to pay attention to the breath as it goes in and out, and notice when the mind wanders from this task. This practice of returning to the breath builds the muscles of attention and mindfulness.”- Mindful Staff ( https://www.mindful.org/how-to-meditate/ )
